Abstract

The present investigation is dedicated to the analysis of a set of pastas made from the marrow of ground maize cane and agglutinated with two products of vegetable origin: the cactus (chumbera) parenchyma of the species Opuntia robusta and the aloe (Aloe Vera) of the species Aloe barbadensis. The purpose of the mixtures with different combinations and proportions of their components, is to obtain a paste that has the suitable characteristics for its use in the volumetric reintegration of polychrome sculptures with woody supports and to promote the use of local, natural, non-polluting and sustainable products.Theanalysisand comparison ofthespecimens wascarried outbyperformingteststhatreflecttheirbehaviorunderdifferentcircumstances and the deterioration factors that affect them during and after preparation. The results obtained show if the characteristics and the degradation or alteration that they present make them suitable in some cases for the restoration of structural shortages in polychrome sculpture. All of the research has been developed in Mexico, where maize cane paste has been frequently used as a sculptural material, therefore it is about adapting these traditional materials to volumetric reintegration when compatibility allows it, promoting the use of harmless, accessible and sustainable materials.

Project objectives

Most relevant results
